Teenage Mutant Ninja Turds

Here’s a cartoon strip I drew back in 1990, featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja “Turds”.

Sadly it is a very bad photocopy of the original and I’ve had to do a little restoration work on it to make it readable again.

It starred the following characters:

• Terry the turd
• Trudie the turd
• Rolphie (as in Rolf Harris) the original turtles were named after artists. Little did I know at the time about Mr Harris…

They travel around in the “pat” mobile and jump down the “poop” chute.

Chock full of very poor, poo related gags.

I originally submitted this to Viz comic and never received a reply. I’m sure they were inundated with comics every week.

A few months later Spitting Image did their own version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turds, along with the infamous “Cow-a-dunga” cry.

My friends were convinced “you’ve been ripped off”, “they stole your idea” etc.

However I don’t think changing “Turtle” to “Turd” and “Cowabunga” to “Cowadunga” takes a great leap of imagination, so I put it down to coincidence.

Here we are 30 years later and I’ve dug out the old comic and given it a little polish.
